“I must admit, when I was told Irina had a daughter, you were certainly not what I had pictured.” Lifting his glass to his mouth, Kerensky watched an amused smile play about the lips of his dining companion.

“I suppose I would not be.” The slim beauty acknowledged with a minute nod, no wasted motion about it. “It is a very useful ability...avoiding a connection to her.” Her amusement deepened, her smile widening, “It certainly has not been a benefit to my...sister.”

The subtle acknowledgement of the quintessential elephant in the room lessened the tense undercurrent running through the conversation and he chuckled softly.

“True. Ms. Bristow’s troubles are the stuff of legend in the community.” Kerensky leaned forward, smiling himself. “But then, I suspect it is of legends you wish to speak, isn’t it Nadia?”

She smiled and inclined her head again. “It is.”
